WHERE DO WE GO FROM HERE?
As you know, the Texas Legislature was unable to resolve the debate about the future of the State Board of Plumbing Examiners during this year’s legislative session. The failure of legislation to continue the board was a surprise to most everyone.
Thanks to action taken by Gov. Abbott following the session, the board was extended and will continue to oversee statewide licensure of plumbing until the issue can be addressed again when the Legislature convenes for its next session in January of 2021. For now, plumbing licensure and training will continue as usual.
Since the legislative session ended, PHCC has been involved in countless meetings, conferences and conversations with our membership, state officials, industry leaders and other stakeholder organizations on the appropriate next steps in this debate. We will continue to be at the forefront of any discussions that might influence the eventual outcome, and we will keep you informed with updates through email and at our training sessions. In the coming months, we will be asking that you help amplify the voice of plumbers by letting your legislators know where you stand. We hope you will do so.
To help provide answers to how all of this happened, we’ve developed an overview that you may share with anyone interested in the issue.
